Copyright Your Songs
Copyright is a way that artists can legally protect their original work and creations. This includes all written and visual creations from music to blueprints to computer programming code.
The copyright will go to whoever (one or more authors) has had a part in the creation of the piece which is about to be copyright. The owners of the copyright have sole rights to record, distribute, reproduce, sell and perform live.
Once you have written or recorded a piece you are the owner, which means you should claim to be the owner by putting the copyright symbol and year on everything you distribute.
Even though you technically own the copyright once you write or record something, it is still very important to get the copyright official. Doing so will give you numerous additional benefits to increase the protection of your work.
One of the reasons it is necessary has to do with copyright infringement. Copyright infringement is when somebody takes your work (or a sample of your work) and uses it to sell and profit from. If you can’t get them to stop distributing your work then you must take them to court. Unfortunately, if you do not have your work legally and formally copyrighted then you can not take the them to court, which is one very improtant reason to get your work legally copyrighted.
